N - SPEC
Efficiency in operations and environment protection –two key elements in the technology for ducts cleaning. N-SPEC® is the world leader in line duct cleaning, paraffin removal, asphaltenes, hydrates, and other solids that reduce production and cause obstructions in the line. N-SPEC® treatment, after the execution of work, generates more recyclable material, reducing costs and providing a cleaner service.
N-SPEC® offers an aggressive line of cleaning fluids, launching and reception systems – such as the N-SPECTOR® – as well as tracking equipment. Geometric inspections, the use of duct scrapers, as well as other advanced technologies, generate a superior efficiency in ducts.
Years of experience with specialized technicians and personnel at the same worksite mean that all safety factors are taken into account during the design and engineering of all N-SPEC® procedures. N-SPEC® means cleaner, more safe, and more efficient operations…through all your line.
TANK CLEANING
The same N-SPEC® technology that revolusionized duct cleaning has also transformed the industry of tank cleaning. Actually, tank cleaning with N-SPEC® requires less than half of the time needed with conventional methods – and significantly reduces your disposal cost.
Through the use of heat interchangers, N-SPEC® products, once blended with a diluent, are launched in the form of a pressurized jet stream towards the sediment on the tank bottom. As the blend contacts the sediment, it becomes a fluid that can be easily pumped.
In most cases, the N-SPEC® process results in a recyclable product allowing the separation of water and waste, and eliminating or drastically lessening the time of the personnel inside the tanks, reducing so any incident possibility.
N-SPEC® technology eliminates the need to cut the tank sides due to the total disposition of the tank floor. As the N-SPEC® blend is pumped by portable tanks or centrifugal separators, all solids are gathered for their disposal. The water, depending upon its content, is disposed of or freed.
Once the tank has been finally rinsed with a N-SPEC® product and water, it becomes completely freed from hydrocarbons and can be subjected to inspections and maintenance.
The tank cleaning N-SPEC® system does not cause any harm to the environment and demands less than half of the time to clean. In few words, experience and superior technology make of N-SPEC® an easy election for your tank ckeaning tasks.
ADVANTAGES IN TANK CLEANING
- Harmless technology for the environment
- Half of the cleaning time when compared to other conventional methods.
- Much lower disposal cost.
- Minimum time needed by the personnel inside the tank

GEOMETRIC INSPECTION
Now, more than ever, duct operators need to know their lines internal status. They know that structure integrity can be influenced by factors, such as high tension and geometric anomalies that can speed up the development of defects.
Duct operators need reliable information about the location and magnitude of all reductions: Precise and timely information. New norms related to duct integrity require careful internal inspection now. Due to this, the duct structural integrity has more importance than corrosion control.
For this reason, more and more pipeline and gas pipeline operators look for N-SPEC® for a thorough geometric inspection. N-SPEC® geometric duct scrapers, either with one or with multiple channels, offer a wide line of study evaluations of functioning and recently constructed ducts.
These evaluations include the qualification of new line construction, the determination of the integrity of existent lines, the detection of possible problems in areas that affect efficiency, the documentation of productors that are generating contamination in the lines, assuring the capacity to introduce inspection tools in lines and complying with the DOT (Department of Transport in USA) regulations.
After manufacturing, N-SPEC® ensures that all lines have been adequately manufactured and freed from anomalies and waste.
STUDY EVALUATIONS
- To qualify the construction of new lines
- To determine the integrity of existent lines
- To detect inefficient areas
- To document the origin of contaminants
- To determine the factibility of introducing inspection tools in the line
- To comply with the Department of Transport regulations.
A N-SPEC® geometric inspection reveals dents, rugosities, distortions and slotted parts in ducts. Also, it detects valves, T’s, circumferential weldings, changes in the wall thickness, and other duct characteristics.
N-SPEC® also offers analytical data based on the inspection run to show the caliber as well as the gathered inertial data.
TURNKEY SERVICE FOR DUCTS
Achieving a more complete operative efficiency is one of the main challenges that operators deal with. Great part of this work consists of keeping the system clean and free from obstructions. In N-SPEC®, we use our licensed chemical products for ducts and the advanced duct scraper technology to eliminate huge volumes of solids and sediments, where traditional duct scrapers have shown their inadequacy.
Since 1987, N-SPEC® has supplied cleaning services to hundreds of companies covering thousands of miles in ducts. During such a process, we have developed case studies for almost any duct location or accumulation situation.
N-SPEC® chemical cleaners for ducts—that are pumped/injected into the duct prior or after the introduction of the duct scraper—are surfanctants, polymerics, and very concentrated liquid dispersers that have been designed to eliminate resistent solids such as the paraffin/asphaltene and deposits of compressor oil. Actually, N-SPEC® became one of the first companies that recognized the “black dust” contaminant and that developed a unique blend of surfanctants to eliminate this type of accumulation.
Our superior cleaning product line works differently when compared to traditional cleaning agents. Instead of trying to dissolve contaminants, N-SPEC® chemical products penetrate into the thick solids to reach the pipeline surface where adhesive forces that stick contaminants in the line are reduced.
This process—jointly with the specially designed duct scraper—is much more effective and less costly for the elimination of solids in ducts.
Besides less energy costs, the N-SPEC® system means less waste. A much minor volume of liquid is required to optimize solid elimination and, in many cases, the water can be recycled again for the cleaning program.
N-SPEC® products are also formulated to help in the protection of pipelines and gas pipelines from thick accumulation of new contaminants and from corrosion in pipelines.
In general, for duct cleaning, the turnkey service provides custormers with:
• A well trained and experienced professional team in each aspect of cleaning and duct scraping.
• A last generation equipment that distinguish N-SPEC® when compared to other duct cleaning companies.
• A wide set of technical services, including efficiency evaluation in duct cleaning, lab analysis of removed solids, and the design of the most efficient cleaning programs for your ducts.
N-SPEC® can supply any necessary equipment for any job, including its licensed system of the separation equipment for high pressure gas pipelines: the N-SPECTOR®.
Either when cleaning for increasing performance, or when cleaning for reducing corrosion, N-SPEC® offers a wide set of economical cleaning solutions. And these services are supplied to any desired level for the custormer; from a simple consulting service until complete turnkey service cleaning tasks.
After determining precise cleaning agents, N-SPEC® service technicians work to clean your line. Using “duct scraper and cleaning agent procedures”, N-SPEC® effectively removes any accumulated solid in ducts, permitting its elimination just within a fraction of the time-lapse previously required and with a minimum volume of waste liquids.
DUCT CLEANING
N-SPEC® provides chemical cleaning services, gel cleaning or cleaning with duct scrapers, either when the duct is in operation or when it has been removed from service. Each procedure provides advantages, cost parameters, and time-lapse for the duct removed from service, if necessary.
LINE CHEMICAL CLEANING
The N-SPEC® unique service in lines allows duct operators to clean their lines without removing them from service. N-SPEC® professionals in ducts project and design operations with duct scrapers using the right selection of such tools and construction materials to ensure their most effective performance.
The advanced chemical cleaning in the line becomes the most economical cleaning method since it eliminates the interruption of service during long time periods.
A typical duct can be cleaned in four days or less by using this method. With the use of the N-SPECTOR® separator.
Duct operators can clean pipelines or carry out improvements in the system with no suspension of the operations.

N-SPEC® ADVANTAGES
- It reduces the required energy
- It increases efficiency in ducts.
- It reduces the friction
- It reduces potential corrosion
- It improves the quality of gathered data during inspections.
GEL CLEANING
During gel cleaning, the line must be removed from service and the gel must be blended in the field. On the other hand, gels are sensitive to pressure, temperature, and they are expensive. Near five miles of gel—with duct scrapers each 50 feets (15 meters)—are required to clean a line of one hundred miles.
MECHANICAL CLEANING
Eliminating black dust and paraffin by just using mechanical dust scrapers may be effective, but it is risky and slow. Black dust and paraffin can adhere and obstruct the duct scraper during this process. On the other hand, mechanical cleaning provides marginal results in the elimination of abrasive sediments, fine or sticky, specially in the case of low pressure lines.

PARAFFIN ELIMINATION
Ducts restricted in their capacity by paraffin deposits can be treated through the application of products and N-SPEC® duct scrapers. Through a progressive program with duct scrapers—using these with little holes to allow the flow of fluids and chemical products—paraffin can be eliminated, recovering the complete internal dimension. N-SPEC® products eliminate the adhesive characteristic of the paraffin allowing its flow through the duct. Paraffin can either pass through the production systems or be caught in the retention tanks at its last stage
.

Mainly in oil pipelines, paraffin might present serious problems that could totally obstruct the line. N-SPEC®, besides eliminating the paraffin adhesive characteristics, dissolves—in many cases—the solid paraffin, turning it in an easy mud that can flow.
TECHNICAL SERVICES
After years of experience in the field and thanks to a sophisticated software, N-SPEC® offers a wide set of technical services, including the design of cleaning programs, monitoring solids during line cleaning, and lab services.
PROGRAM DESIGN
Ideally, N-SPEC® starts with a lab analysis of samples extracted from the duct. This critical path allows N-SPEC® technicians, experienced in duct scraping, to determine any precise cleaning agent required to break and remove deposits. This process helps ensure a complete and successful cleaning of your duct.
MONITORING
N-SPEC® field technicians carry out a monitoring process during the line cleaning to record the date and pass of each duct scraper in an audible and visual way. This way, the customer is able to actually estimate each run efficiency.
This focus in the actual time-lapse efficiency of the cleaning allows the personnel in the field to ensure that the line is cleaned before interrupting the process. N-SPEC® data will be transferred to your computer for a more complete analysis and for your permanent records.
LAB SERVICES
The N-SPEC® lab supports all field services, providing a wide selection of analytical procedures designed to back up N-SPEC® applications. By quantifying and qualifying the nature of eliminated solids in pilot programs, N-SPEC® engineers count on valuable information related to the system, helping them in the design of a cleaning program for the line under the most possible efficient cleaning procedure.
